Please see Seesaw to find out about our most recent learning and adventures in school. You can also read weekly updates on the federation newsletter.
There is extended periods for child initiated play when adults can provide quality interactions with the children to move their learning forwards.
Our PE and more active days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. On these days please can you send the children to school in practical PE clothes. The Reception children take part in weekly PE lessons either in the school hall or outside. The nursery children take part too as soon as they are developmentally ready. It is a firm favourite! The children also have access to the outdoor classroom during play where there is always a varied choice of physical activities.

In EYFS we ensure that the children develop firm mathematical foundations in a way that is engaging, and appropriate for their age. Throughout each school day we use a multitude of 'real life' contexts to talk about and teach number sense. This could be checking that the register totals are correct each morning or collecting the correct amount of apples at snack time. When we have a birthday the children use their measuring skills to bake a cake which they share equally. The list is endless! During the nursery year and in reception; when the children are ready, structured maths lessons are taught daily. We use a blended approach of the NCETM mastering number and White Rose Maths. Our aim is to deliver a bespoke curriculum, teaching the foundations of maths in order for the children to build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in maths. Six key areas of mathematics learning we focus on are: Cardinality and Counting, Comparison, Composition, Pattern, Shape and Space . Please click here to visit the White Rose Maths page for parents.

Lots of our maths learning happens outside. Here the children used their problem solving skills to adjust the height of the arch so that they could cyle through!
Our phonics programme is Little Wandle. Children in nursery start by learning the Foundations of Phonics. This involves children developing their listening skills, rhyming and beginning to develop oral blending. Phonics in Reception begins at phase 2 and children learn the phonemes which will enable them to read. Please click here to visit the parent page for Little Wandle.
The Reception children take part in drawing club every week based upon an exciting story, fairy tale or video clip from the past. This session helps them develop a 'love of reading' and exposes them to new vocabulary, as the adult showers them in words. It also allows them to use their imagination as they can innovate stories, characters and settings. During this special time the children can also practice their writing and mathematical skills as they invent and use codes! We have copied one of the children's drawing and writing for you to browse below.
The children thought about how the bear could reach the window to climb inside?
I wonder... what tails I can tell?
This is what we will be learning this term across all areas of learning in Reception.
Reading is so important and spending just 10 minutes a day reading with your child can make a crucial difference to their future!
The older children in school make and sell toast on Fridays. If your child would like to eat toast at snack time on Fridays please send them to school with 20p.

We will reward your child with dojo points when they display positive learning behaviours as well as our school values; compassion, respect, service and perseverance. We also use stickers for some of our younger children as an instant and visual reward. Research shows that children who have parents who take interest in their child's time at school are happier and achieve highly at school. We ask that you check dojo regularly and praise the children for any wonderful things they do at school!
To encourage team work and collaboration we also have a jar in our class. When all the class follow the rules and work as a team they drop beads in the jar. When the jar is full all the children can choose a class treat! You could ask them about this at home too?
